Bighorn Pass Hike
with Yellowstone Hiking Guides
Day 6:
The last hike in Yellowstone will be in the northwest corner below the striking Gallatin Mountains. This is one of the most untamed parts of the Park and is seldom visited. The hike up the Upper Gallatin River toward Bighorn Pass is steeped in human history. It is relatively level, but in a mountain valley, at times next to the uppermost fork of the Missouri River. This is an out-and-back hike. During the fur trapping era this area was the site of frequent and fierce battles between tribesman and trappers. The region was rich in beaver leading up to the 1810-1840 period. This hiking day is truly wild and remote with amazing scenery and the potential for rare wildlife encounters. We will retreat to Buck’s T-4 Roadhouse, a Big Sky favorite for decades, to hit the hot tubs and have a farewell dinner at the hotel’s legendary wild game restaurant. Fantastic vegetarian options as well.
