June 9, Day 1:
We meet in Bozeman, Montana at the your lodging of choice around 10 AM and head south through the Paradise Valley. It’s two hours to Yellowstone’s north entrance, located at the quaint mountain town of Gardiner. The Roosevelt Arch dominates the town’s skyline. Mammoth Hot Springs terraces will be our introduction to Yellowstone where there is a fascinating board walk trail system to explore the hot spring features. The Albright Visitor’s Center has the best museum in the Park. The building was one of the first buildings constructed in Yellowstone. We will explore the geology and the history. Then, we will take an evening van tour into the Lamar Valley for a photo safari. We will be looking for grizzlies, wolves, fox, coyote, badger, bison, elk, bighorn, mountain goat, pronghorn antelope, trumpeter swan, and their young. We will return to Gardiner’s relative civilization for the night.
Hiking Level: Easy, boardwalks and maintained trails, 3 miles. Lodging: Ridgeline Hotel at Yellowstone. Meals: Dinner.

June 10, Day 2:
Bright and early after breakfast we depart for the Lamar Valley. This world-famous hiking and wildlife viewing destination is North America’s #1 wildlife hot spot. Known as the Serengeti of North America, this is the best time of year to see the wildlife show! After a road tour of the valley, looking for the signature resident wolf packs (and other wildlife), we will stop to get our boots a little muddy with a two mile walk on the Lamar River Trail. We will be on the lookout for pronghorn, bison, badger, coyote, and sandhill crane. Sometimes we safely observe bighorn sheep, moose, wolf, and bear from the trail. After leaving the valley we will move on to Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone (yes, there is a Grand Canyon in Yellowstone!) for an afternoon rim walk on our way to West Yellowstone, Montana for dinner.
Hiking Level: Moderate, well maintained dirt trails, 5 miles. Lodging: Yellowstone Lodge. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

We will start our day early to see the wildlife of the Hayden Valley, the second-best place to see wildlife in Yellowstone! After taking in the sights of the Yellowstone River flowing through the valley, we move on to explore thermal features of Yellowstone. We will see all the thermal classics including the Mud Volcano, West Thumb Geyser Basin on Yellowstone Lake, Old Faithful and the Upper Geyser Basin, and a jaw-dropping view of Grand Prismatic Hot Springs.
